Built in 1902, the Dutch Windmill in Golden Gate Park is a beloved San Francisco landmark.
I made this painting during a group paint-out of the California Watercolor Association in March when the tulips were blooming. I loved the view of the tulips and the windmill, but when I walked to the other side of the structure, I noticed that the clouds were making amazing formations that resonated and interacted with the strong diagonal lines of the windmill structure, so I decided to paint this view instead. I’ll just have to go back and paint the tulips some other year!
